WHAT IS PORCELAIN?

The genuine china or "hard china" has beeen discovered many centuries ago in far East. It is made from a mixture of kaolin, feldspar and quartz. Several steps, several cooking at very high temperature (between 800 and then 1250 or 1450 degrees centigrade) are needed to get its hardness and shine. The "biscuit" became "Porcelain".

TECHNICAL WORK

First of all I choose fine white china.

The first step is to draw on china the chosen design as bouquet , flower ,bird ,character ...If there are outlines to be done , they can be drawn with a special pen.

Regarding specific colours concerning china , I use pigments mixed with oil. For dilution turpentine oil is necessary .

Different brushes are used. Stage  after stage, work will be done, several cooking are necessary, two three, four... at 860°.

The gold or platinum laying will be the last operation.

The uniform manner of colouring flat rim of the plate is called  "Putoisage".

VERY IMPORTANT :
These high cooked items are suitable with food.
They also can be washed in dishwasher and put in micro- wave  EXCEPT items decorated with platinum or gold.
